The Making of an Artist
Presented by Joe Senungetuk

Tuesday, Oct 7, 7:00 p.m.
Nome Elementary School Commons

Don’t miss this opportunity to meet Joe Senungetuk, an
internationally-known artist and writer from our region. This slide
presentation will include information about Joe’s life, his art, and
his writing. Joe will also discuss how the goal of making crafts to
sell to the tourist market directly conflicts with the artist’s
desire to express ideas through more original works.

Joe Senungetuk was born in Wales in 1940. He graduated from the San
Francisco Art Institute in 1970. He wrote “Give or Take a Century, an
Eskimo Chronicle,” published in 1968 and 1980. In 1971, Joe moved
back to Alaska and has worked as a teacher, artist and writer until
the present. He now lives in Anchorage.

Chugiak-Eagle River Campus Welcomes You! UAA’s scenic Chugiak Eagle River Campus provides curricula and activities to meet the needs of our area through post-secondary courses, skills development, student and support services. Our campus’s strength is derived from the ability to quickly adjust to the needs of the local people. Most of our classes meet in the evening once per week to meet the needs of our working students. Our convenient times and location allow students to start with one or two classes and still be able to work full-time. This method has allowed many students to begin their road to a college degree here in Eagle River. Many students use our modern computer lab to brush up on skills or learn new ones. Students can also use the computers to access information on the Internet. From eight classes taught in 1977 to an explosion of over 100 classes currently taught, we serve almost 5000 students every year. We offer classes in all major disciplines from Accounting to Sociology. Classes Offered Take classes here at the Chugiak-Eagle River Campus! Fall ‘08 Class Schedule Link Our classes are also listed in UAA’s general catalogs and schedules. Getting Started You must be admitted to UAA as either degree or non-degree seeking students before you can register for class. Once you have been admitted and received a UA Identification Number (8 digits), you can login to UAOnline, search, register and pay for courses. Community and Technical College (CTC) Leadership Team, comprised of division/department directors and chairs including Chugiak-Eagle River Campus Director Peter Risse, established a planning format and timeline during the November and December 2005 leadership team meetings.
