The Making of an Artist
Presented by Joe Senungetuk
Tuesday, Oct 7, 7:00 p.m.
Nome Elementary School Commons
Don’t miss this opportunity to meet Joe Senungetuk, an
internationally-known artist and writer from our region. This slide
presentation will include information about Joe’s life, his art, and
his writing. Joe will also discuss how the goal of making crafts to
sell to the tourist market directly conflicts with the artist’s
desire to express ideas through more original works.
Joe Senungetuk was born in Wales in 1940. He graduated from the San
Francisco Art Institute in 1970. He wrote “Give or Take a Century, an
Eskimo Chronicle,” published in 1968 and 1980. In 1971, Joe moved
back to Alaska and has worked as a teacher, artist and writer until
the present. He now lives in Anchorage.
